This series contains correspondence, memoranda, photographs, articles, reports and brochures that document the correspondence to and from William Niering. The bulk of the material captures daily administrative tasks: accepting and rejecting offers to speak and lecture, notice and acknowledgement of awards, providing comments for articles, reports, and legislative bills, requests for recommendation letters from students and colleagues, requests for publications, and Arboretum business. Aside from these routine letters, there are personal correspondence from students and colleagues, letters to the editor on various topics including wetlands and waste, notes on recycling efforts and current research being done. Aso of intrest in correspondence with Frank Egler, noted plant ecologist, with whom he worked on numerous committees and projects.
