Scope and Contents

This series contains photographs, negatives, and slides documenting Rachel Carson, her family, colleagues, and homes. Included are all of the photos from Rachel Carson: Witness for Nature, as well as many others. The photographs of Carson span her life, including childhood and college photos, formal portraits from throughout her career, photos from research expeditions, and a series of photos from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Among the friends and associates with photos in the collection are Shirley Briggs, Roland Clement, Bob Hines, Ruth Scott, Dorothy Freeman, and Mary Scott Skinker. There are also reproductions of drawings, caricatures, and other artistic representations of Rachel Carson.
