Biographical / Historical

William Clyde Fitch (May 2, 1865 – September 4, 1909) was an American dramatist who was successful on Broadway during his time. Fitch wrote 62 plays, 36 of which were original, with genres varying from comedies to melodramas. A graduate of Amherst, Fitch spent his early career writing jokes for publications such as Life, until he received success on his work Beau Brummell (1890). He went on to write several popular plays, including Nathan Hale (1898), The Girl with the Green Eyes (1902), The Truth (1907), and Girls (1910). Although he was popular and successful on both sides of the Atlantic, Fitch fell into obscurity after his death in 1909.
