Carl Hugo Erbslöh Correspondence
Scope and Contents
Collection of carbon copies of circular typed letters sent to members of the Erbslöh family. Carbon copies number consecutively from 23 to 64 with several missing. Carbon copies contain extracts and summaries from letters of family members, chiefly those serving in the German army and others who had emigrated to North America. The letters were composed by C[arl] Hugo Erbslöh.

Biographical / Historical
C. Hugo Erbslöh, 1850-1938, was the son of the early German industrialist Carl Julius Erbslöh. In 1876 he founded a chemical wholesale business in Düsseldorf and subsequently purchased clay quarries in Geisenheim, west of Frankfurt. The company survives today as C.H. Erbsloh, a multinational industrial chemical supplier. Hugo Erbslöh was married to Adele Engels, a niece of Friedrich Engels.
