About Merion Ferris Ritter

Merion Ferris Ritter was a member of the class of 1935 at Connecticut College. She majored in chemistry, was a member of the science club and was managing editor of Press board, the college publicity organization.

While Mrs. Ritter’s daughter, Ruth Ritter Ladd ‘72 was a student at Connecticut College in the early 1970s, Mrs. Ritter was a member of the Parent’s Committee of Connecticut College. The Parent’s Committee was formed in the late spring of 1970 by a group of parents from the New England area in response to their concerns around the events of Parents Weekend (May, 1970) and the Connecticut College Student/Faculty “Strike” the following week, parietal rules, and administrative responsibility. The committee obtained a Connecticut College Student Directory to create a mailing list and in June of 1970 sent out a questionnaire regarding their concerns to all parents of currently enrolled students. This committee was not sanctioned by Connecticut College.
