Administrative History
The Institute of Women’s Professional Relations was founded in September of 1929 as a source of information for college educated women about occupations and desirable training and experience. The research headquarters of the Institute were housed in Greensboro, North Carolina at the University of North Carolina until September 1934 when it was moved to Connecticut College. The IWPR conducted studies of women in different professions and published their findings with help from the College. They also published a quarterly magazine entitled Women’s Work and Education, which provided information on jobs, interviews, and book reviews. In addition, conferences were regularly held to discuss topics concerning women in professional settings. Chase Going Woodhouse was the original director of the institute, and gave lectures at many of these events.
