Biographical / Historical

Tasha Tudor (1915-2008) was an American author and illustrator known for her depictions of children and animals set among the New England countryside. Her art appeared in nearly one hundred books as well as numerous cards, calendars, and other ephemera. Her first book, “Pumpkin Moonshine” was published in 1938. Although born in Boston, Massachusetts, Tudor spent much of her youth on a Connecticut farm, and as an adult, renovated and lived in a large New Hampshire homestead. In 1971, Tudor moved to a smaller farm in rural Vermont. For her extraordinary artistic accomplishments, Tudor was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Vermont-Montpelier in 1981. Tudor’s reputation for masterful watercolor and pencil drawings, as well as her embrace of the simplicity of New England farm-life earned her notoriety with the press and her admirers. As such, she was featured in a 1955 edition of “Life” magazine.
