Scope and Contents
The following papers provide a snapshot of American public health researcher and social welfare reformer Dr. Alice Hamilton (1869 - 1970). A majority of the collection includes manuscripts and publications produced by Dr. Hamilton during her work as a leading expert in occupational health from 1911- 1942. Notably, there are manuscripts related to work at Chicago settlement house, Hull House. Included also are personal notes taken during research on occupational health hazards and papers related to women’s health and access to birth control. Additional materials include correspondence between Dr. Hamilton and colleagues or personal affiliates from 1893 - 1961 and materials related to a humanitarian trip to Nazi Germany in 1933. Smaller parts of the collection include photographs, ephemeral items, and U.S. Department of Labor bulletins.
