Jack writes about travelling (by train) to Solo (in Mabini, Batangas, the Philippines) and the Prince of Solo's (Pakubuwono X's) wedding to a sultana of Djocja. Other details include the landscape, people, relations between the local population and the Dutch, the royalty in Solo and their relations with the Sultans of Djocja, architecture (e.g., a pendhapa), cultural practices for weddings. He is in favour of Dutch colonialism/imperialism of Java. Both the racist term for black people and the sexism are directed towards the sultana (daughter of the Sultan of Djocja) and appear twice in the letter.
