Jack writes about his travels by train from Penang (in Malaysia) and to Alor Star (possibly Alor Setar, Malaysia); Padang Besan (Malayisa); Tung Song, Siam (possibly Thung Song, Thailand); Chumphon, Siam (Thailand); and Bangkok (Thailand). His travel continues by boat from Bangkok to Sinapore via the Gulf of Siam (Gulf of Thailand) on the S.S. Katong. He comments on the landscape, his work regarding trains in Siam, the Malay Opera, golf, the people with whom he travelled, and future travel plans. Jack goes into detail about a week in Bangkok, including the people (mainly Europeans/Americans), the landscape, a Buddhist wat, and a palace. He discusses Siam's role within Asian/colonial politics and how they need to adopt American ways or smaller nations will be taken over by and incorporated into more powerful countries. At the end of the letter, he asks for the letter to be kept. The racist term for black people is used within a racist description of the local Siamese (Thai) people that features racist stereotypes. The offensive terminology for Chinese and Scottish people refers to people with whom he travels. The sexist ideas relates to a woman, who he notes has different ideas regarding race and Asia than he does, and how she should be at home and not travelling as a magazine writer.

Thai numerals are used on pages 6-10. Arabic numerals in a mathematical equation appear on the back of the envelope.
