This series contains correspondence, reports, maps, drafts, brochures,notes,deeds, surveys, clippings,articles, and photographs and negatives that document Niering's projects concerning wetlands. This includes his academic research as well as his work as a consultant and expert for private citizens,for-profit and non-profit businesses, and government agencies. These materials document projects primarily in the Northeast but also includes his work in the Polynesian island of Kapinamarance. This trip was part of a larger five year-study conducted by the Office of Naval Research and Pacific Science Board. The case studies range from academic research of various wetland ecosystems to conservation work to preserve particular parcels of land. It also documents the reports and documentation he created in his work as a consultant. He also provided testimony and commentary for government initiatives (Long Island).
