Conservation Law Foundation of New England (CLF), 1977 - 1982
Scope and Contents
Grant in support of a review of federal water resources policy (Rivers and Trails Project). Project initiatives included: identifying deficiencies in water resource programs in the northeast, developing recommendations to correct those weaknesses, and using political skills to effect positive changes in policy. The Foundation also provided support for the CLF’s “Connecticut Critical Lands Project”, a statewide legal services program to improve the management and conservation of Connecticut critical lands, and to provide legal assistance to individuals, organizations and agencies involved in land-use in Connecticut. Funding was also provided in support of the “Connecticut Aquifer Protection Project”. Major objectives of this project included, preparation of a legal memorandum on the ability of municipalities to implement groundwater protection, and development of model ordinances to prohibit land uses that present, high risk to groundwater quality. A grant was also made to the Connecticut segment of CLF’s Energy Research and Advocacy Project. The goals of this project included the promotion of energy conservation, increased reliance on renewable fuels, and the maintenance of environmental standards consistent with the increased use of coal.
