Administrative History

The Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation, incorporated in 1941, was founded as an organization that would assist charitable and educational organizations in their endeavors. These efforts included administering relief to the needy, providing care for the old and sick, providing support to pubic institutions, promoting the study of music, and supporting the education of everyone no matter their creed, sex, color, or race.

At the Connecticut College, the foundation helped to establish a program for a Major in Business Administration. This program was intended to give its students knowledge of economic and governmental organization and theory through both practical field experiences and classroom lectures. The Major in Business Administration was established at Connecticut College because Auerbach believed that liberal arts education was essential to working in business. Economics professor Chase Going Woodhouse was appointed director of the major upon its inception at Connecticut College.
