Jack describes being in Alexandria, Egypt and seeing the Pillar of Pompheii (possibly Pompey's Pillar]), the Catacombs (possibly the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa), a Spanish game that he called Pilota [Pelota]). He then writes that he had travelled on the S.S. Crook and had been in Cairo and Port Said. He comments on the S.S. Meteor taking him from Alexandria to Europe (Marseilles); the staff; the other passengers; life aborad the ship; passing Crete and Italy (e.g. Sicily, the Straits of Messina, Stromboli [and its volcano], Naples [who was experiencing clashes of the Nationalist Part and the Socialist Party], and Corsica - whose landscapes is described); and his future plans. The racist term for Japanese people was used to refer to the people who worked the ship, the derogatory terms for Italian or Spanish person and for a French person was in refernece to a passenger, and the stereotype of German people was in reference to the design of the ship. The first 29 pages of the letter are missing.
