Jack writes about seeing the battleship, H.M.S. Renown, that was carrying HRH The Prince of Whales [Wales] (later King Edward VIII) on his tour from 1920-1922. His last letter was sent from Colombo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), and he had been to Port Said (Egypt). He describes Colombo; his time spent there; his travel plans to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Singapore, and Java (Indonesia); his life aborad the ship, S.S. Atsuta Maru; and his family at home. The racist terminology was in relation to someone with whom he visited Colombo and Port Said.
